FMG Group Invests £600k in Office Expansion Following Business Success

Issued October 15 2004 Huddersfield-based fleet management company FMG Group has invested £600,000 to expand its headquarters by 6,000 sq ft. The new extension has been designed to continue to offer a high quality work environment for the organisation’s 170 employees and allow for future growth.

The expansion was originally planned to occur five years after the company moved to the St Andrews Road premises, but the company’s outstanding growth rate led to work commencing within two years. During that time the turnover of FMG Group has grown from £20m to £30m, with staff numbers increasing by 30%.

The new atrium-style area will provide the company with an additional 60 contact centre workstations on the ground floor and multiple new offices and meeting rooms on the first floor – taking the total area of the company’s premises to nearly 22,000 sq ft - with the capacity to house a further 100 members of staff.

Tim Pickup, FMG Group’s financial director who has led the extension project, commented: “We highly value our employees’ contributions to the continued success of the company and we are committed to providing them with the best possible working environment.

“Due to our outstanding growth rate over the past two years it was essential for us to extend our premises to continue to offer spacious accommodation and to allow for this level of growth in the future.”

Work began on the building extension in May of this year and was completed in September. Huddersfield architect Heppenstalls was commissioned to design the accommodation, having converted the premises for the company when it moved to the site two years ago. Clay Construction, also based in Huddersfield, were the contractors on the project.

Tim concluded: “It was important for us to use the ‘best of the best’ of local companies to design and manage the project. We are proud to be based in Huddersfield and our newly extended premises will allow us to grow the business even further within the area.

Established in 1986, FMG Group is the UK’s largest independent provider of outsourced fleet management services, with customers ranging from owner-managed businesses to blue chip companies. It currently employs 170 people and has an annual turnover of £30m.
