01/07/07 Kirklees Business News - Training benefits charities
A company in Huddersfield put its managers through their paces to raise £3,300 for good causes.
Fleet management group FMG Support, based at St Andrew’s Road, set a challenge to participants on its management development programme.
They were grouped into five teams – with each team given a budget of £100 to devise fundraising projects for five local charities.
The charities to benefit were Macmillan Cancer Support, The Laura Crane Trust, West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and road accident prevention campaign Brake.
The two-month protraining programme led to a variety of fundraising ideas, including sponsored walks, selling greetings cards, producing a calendar and conducting various events.
Nick Brown, chief executive for FMG Support, said: “ Our employees demonstrate our values of pride, intelligence and determination throughout every aspect of their work.
“The programme was developed specifically to further stretch their capabilities, while simultaneously giving something back to the local community.”
He said: “The process took people out of their usual specialist area to challenge and introduce them to valuable new skills that they can now adopt, which will in turn benefit the long-term performance of the business.”
